Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself – It Isn’t Good For Your Health

Be Kind to Yourself and Live Healthier!

An article in Psychology Today stated that being kind to yourself can  help you to bounce back from negative experiences and live an overall healthier life.

Showing yourself kindness and self-compassion when faced with difficult life struggles and failures when working towards a goal is a more effective approach than trying to motivate yourself with shame and self-criticism. Shame and self-criticism lead to inner rebellion and giving up… while self-compassion gives you hope and helps you trust the process of change.

Research on self-compassion shows that it is associated with:

  • Less anxiety and depression
  • More optimism
  • Better recovery from stress
  • Better adherence to healthy behaviour changes, such as exercise or diet

Do you often feel like you are hard on yourself? I challenge you to show yourself kindness today… maybe it is saying a couple positive affirmations out loud, stopping a downward spiral of negative thoughts or just smiling more!
